Abstract/Contents:"A new active ingredient that is been introduced into the turf market under the brand name of VexisTM. As an acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor, pyrimisulfan inhibits biosynthesis of brand-chain amino acids in sensitive plants. When using a preemergent herbicide, it is always a concern for herbicide's safety to the roots especially when applications are made after a dormancy period for warm-season species. Therefore, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the safety of pyrimisulfan on bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) root. Treatments included pyrimisulfan alone, pyrimisulfan plus penoxsulam (another ALS inhibitor), penoxsulam alone and a commercial preemergent and a nontreated control. Bermudagrass "TifEagle" (C. dactylon × C. transvaalensis) was established in cone-tainers using a sand based growing media. Factorial treatment combination were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. After treatment application, plants were harvested 0, 14, 28 and 42 days and root architecture was scanned and quantified using a WinRhizo system. Additionally, canopy percent greenness and clipping biomass were determined weekly. This experiment is still on going and more data will be discussed during the presentation."
