Abstract/Contents: | In glasshouse and field studies, S-21634 [cyperquat] at 4 lb/acre +- additives gave > 90% control of yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) while MBR-8251 [perfluidone] gave 70-80% control. Split applications of bentazone (1 + 1 lb/acre) and cyperquat (1.5 + 1.5 lb/acre) at 10- to 14-day intervals, resulted in excellent control. Examination of turf quality indicated tolerance to bentazone at up to 4 lb/acre and cyperquat up to 6 lb/acre on 2 cvs. of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) but perfluidone consistently reduced growth and bigour of the desirable species. Thus bentazone and cyperquat can be recommended for selective control of C. esculentus in Kentucky bluegrass turf. |
