Abstract/Contents:"The cyclohexanediones and aryloxyphenoxypropionates are two classes of postemergence herbicide which are selective for grass species (the Poaceae). They act at the level of acetyl-CoA carboxylase and thus inhibit fatty acid (and membrane) synthesis. We have studied the action of different herbicides from these two classes on fatty acid synthesis in sensitive crops and in grass weed species reported to be resistant. Our results show clearly that the mechanism of resistance in the weeds studied is due to differences in the protein structure of acetyl-CoA carboxylase."
