| Abstract/Contents: | "Seventy Kentucky bluegrass varieties or selections were established in Sep 1985 at the Joseph Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA. The plots were 4 by 6 ft and seeded at a rate of 2.0 lb per 1000 sq ft. All treatments were replicated three times in a randomized complete block design. The turf was mowed at 1.3 in, fertilized with 0.9 lb N per 1000 sq ft in late spring, and treated with a combination of 2,4-D/MCPP/dicamba to control broadleaf weeds. No fungicides or insecticides were used during the course of this test. The test site was irrigated only when necessary to prevent wilt. A uniform infestion of necrotic ring spot occurred at the site in Jul 1991. The plots were visually rated for disease severity on 16 Jul 1991. Significant differences in disease resistance were found among the varieties and selections in this test. The variety 'Touchdown' showed the greatest amount of disease injury with more than 70% of the turf area affected. The selection showing the least amount of disease was 'I-13' with none of the turf area affected." |
