Abstract/Contents: | "Experiments were conducted from 1990 to 1992 to evaluate three-way combinations of 2,4-D with mecoprop, MCPA, dichlorprop, or dicamba. Mixtures included in these experiments were as follows: 2,4-D + mecoprop + dicamba (1.0 + 0.55 + 0.10, 0.90 + 0.48 + 0.08, and 0.36 + 0.66 + 0.07 lb ae/A); 2,4-D + mecoprop + dichlorprop (0.66 + 0.66 + 0.66 lb ae/A); 2,4-D + MCPA + dichlorprop (0.51 + 0.51 + 0.74 lb ae/A); and 2,4-D + dichlorprop + dicamba (0.74 + 0.74 + 0.18, and 0.70 + 0.35 + 0.06 lb/A). A three-way mixture of mecoprop + MCPA + dichlorprop (0.51 + 0.51 + 0.51 lb/A) was also evaluated. Peak control of Virginia buttonweed was observed 5 wk after treatment in all years. At this evaluation date, the combination containing no 2,4-D provided 28% less control compared to the combination of 2,4-D + mecoprop + dicamba (1.0 + 0.55 + 0.10 lb/A). All combinations with a 2,4-D to mecoprop ratio of 2:1 provided equivalent control. When the ratio of 2,4-D to mecoprop was reversed to a 1:2 ratio, control declined significantly. A greenhouse experiment was initiated to evaluate 2,4-D alone or in combination of 2,4-D + mecoprop + dicamba (1.0 + 0.55 + 0.10 lb ae/A). Rates of 2,4-D ranged from 0.25 to 1.0 lb ae/A while metsulfuron rates ranged from 0.25 to 1.0 oz pr/A. At 48 d after treatment, > or = 0.75 oz/A metsulfuron provided greater control than the 2,4-D + mecoprop + dicamba (1.0 + 0.05 + 0.10 lb ae/A) standard used for comparison. All combinations of 2,4-D + metsulfuron provided greater control than 2,4-D or < or = 0.75 oz/A metsulfuron alone. Metsulfuron at > or = 0.50 oz/A provided fresh weight reduction equivalent to all combinations." |
