| Abstract/Contents: | "1993 will be a critical year in the long history of the herbicide 2,4-D, as events scheduled to occur could well determine whether the compound will continue to be available to growers, industrial users and homeowners. As the result of the publication of certain epidemiological studies, EPA will convene a review panel in late spring to assess the potential risks of continued use, and public hearings will follow. The threats to the continued use of the popular herbicide are not simply epidemiological in nature, but are financial as well. The exceedingly high costs association with reregistration have become a major factor, and should the EPA panel review result in the compound being placed in special review, those costs would escalate sharply and the future of the herbicide would become unclear." |
