| Abstract/Contents: | "Above-ground fresh weight, dry weight, moisture content and tiller numbers of renovated turf of Lolium perenne L. were studied in response to a wide range of fertilizer nitrogen treatments (0-625 kg ha-1). Experiments were made on a sand rootzone and on the local topsoil. Fresh weight, dry weight, moisture content and tiller numbers all increased with increasing nitrogen. It is suggested that increased moisture content of turf may contribute to the poorer wear tolerance of turf receiving high levels of nitrogen. Differences between trials on sand and soil in fresh weight and moisture content seemed attributable to weather conditions during the sampling period. Comparisons are made between renovated turf studied in the present work and established turf studied previously." |
