Abstract/Contents: | Bensulide at 15 lb/acre, chlorthal-dimethyl 15 lb, siduron 8 lb, benfluralin 2 lb, Bandane [polychlorodicyclopentadiene isomers 7.5%] 35 lb and calcium arsenate 392 lb were applied to Kentucky bluegrass [Poa pratensis] cv. Kenblue turf in the mid-spring for 4 consecutive years from 1970 on. Both Bandane and calcium arsenate caused thatch development and poor rooting and reduced earthworm activity in the surface soil after the first 2 applications. During the fourth year, severe wilting was observed in these plots followed by substantial loss of turf in late July. No other herbicide visibly injured the turf. |
