Abstract/Contents:Posan (chlorflurecol + MH) appears to be superior to the arsenical treatments formerly used for the control of P. annua in turf in Pennsylvania. The timing of spring applications to provide suppression of P. annua during the flowering season is currently being studied. Where P. annua constitutes not more than 60% of the plant population there can be a gradual evolution to desirable turf grass species without oversowing. Autumn application of Posan combined with oversowing shows promise, particularly where the Poa population is quite high, but treatment must be carried out after Poa germination and before the 2-leaf stage. Endothal has lacked selectivity for Poa control when applied as a liquid formulaiton but the granular formulation shows selectivity in areas with a base population of Kentucky bluegrass [Poa pratensis].
