| Abstract/Contents: | "Localised dry spots (LDS) are a serious problem on creeping bentgrass turfs in the United States. The cause of LDS is not fully understood. Studies were conducted to provide a more complete characterization of LDS and the effect of nitrogen on the severity of LDS. Results obtained showed increased levels of extracted organic matter associated with non-wettable soils than wettable soils. The only structural difference in the extracted organic matter was observed following a methanol extraction of 3-yr-old green. It appears there is either a unique organic structure, or interaction between several structures occurring in LDS areas. Nitrogen applications tended to reduce the severity of LDS." |
