Abstract/Contents:"The fungicide evaluation was conducted at The Ohio State University Turfgrass Research Center, Columbus, on a stand of perennial ryegrass established over 20 years ago. The turfgrass was maintained under home-lawn management conditions of a 2-in cutting height, clippings returned, no irrigation and 1 lb N/1000 ft₂ as urea (46-0-0) applied fall (1992). Soil at the site is a clay loam. Individual plots measuring 5 ft x 6 ft were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a hand-held, CO²-powered boom sprayer, using T-jet 8010 nozzles at 40 psi in 6 gal water/1000 ft₂. Treatment appliations [applications] began on 22 Apr with subsequent application[s] made at intervals specified on the table. Average high and low air temperatures (F) and rainfall (in), respectively for each month of the test were: May 74.1, 49.2, 2.91; Jun 80.3, 59.3, 4.70; Jul 86.2, 66.4, 5.85; Aug 86.9, 64.0, 5.35; and Sep 74.3, 54.0, 2.91. Disease was severe with initial symptoms developing the second week of Aug. Since treatments were started before disease developed, results evaluated preventative fungicide activity. A number of treatments gave excellent control of rust including Fore, Sentinel, Twosome, Banner, Bayleton, Rubigan, and Daconil. Broadway is no longer available. Touche' and Chipco provided no disease control." Data is given in table form regarding treatment and rate per thousand square feet, application interval, and disease severity.
