Abstract/Contents:Gives a report on seed practices used in the Southeast section of the United States. This report is a summary of reports collected from the following states--Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The permanent grass whether sprigged or seeded in these states is bermudagrass. However, Pensacola Bahiagrass is used in the coastal plains. Pensacola Bahia is good for use in coastal plain areas, but it is slow getting started. The advantages of using Pensacola Bahia are that erosion is not a problem and it will provide ground cover within 2 to 3 years. Seeding practices in the Southeast section of the country are limited to fall planting, and sprigging is continued in most of the states up until October 15. The rate of seeding in the states varies considerably. It is believed that in the future seeding and asphalt hay mulch will become prominent in this section of the country. Soil conservation has also become an interest to some in this section. Fertilizer is a very important part of vegetation programs in this section of the country and large amounts of fertilizer is used. Fertilization is important because there is a very poor natural buildup of the topsoil.
