Abstract/Contents:"In 1977, five of the largest amenity grass seed suppliers in the UK, who were either breeders or breeders' agents, were equally concerned about the slow acceptance of the new purpose-bred amenity grass cultivars by the professional user market. This slow acceptance was most marked for ryegrass. This was of serious concern since ryegrass represented more than 60% of the industry's sales. After some informal discussions, the group formed the Amenity Grass Marketing Association (AGMA). ...AGMA's founders agreed on the organization's primary goals and objectives. These goals remain today: * To ensure that a consistently high quality product is made available to the consumer/end user. * To ensure that the consumer/end user is aware of all of the relative merits of individual cultivars so that tenders may be properly considered. * To ensure that amenity grass seed supplied by members complies fully, and under all circumstances, with the specifications required and requested. * To liaise with other bodies nationally and internationally to further the interests of the amenity grass seed industry."
