Abstract/Contents:Discusses such herbicides as glyphosate, pronamide, Amex and Trimec. Glyphosate is one of the best herbicides ever developed. It gives excellent control on all grass weeds and most broadleaf weeds with no soil residue except at very high rates. It has very low mammalian toxicity. An experimental chemical from Stauffer Chemical Corp., coded as R-24191, will selectively control many grassy and broadleaf weeds either as a preemergence or postemergence treatment in St. Augustine and centipede turfgrasses. "This chemical injured bermuda, zoysia, and bahia turfgrasses. Kerb continues to give excellent control of Poa annua...Amex, formerly A-820, a chemical from Amchem, has given excellent control of weeds as a preemergence herbicide. It is safe on all fine warm season turfgrasses. Trimec continues to give excellent control of most broadleaf weeds in all warm season turfgrasses except St. Augustine. One-half the recommended rate should be used on St. Augustinegrass."
