Abstract/Contents:Discusses the testing of the following nitrogen sources: calcium nitrate (plus calcium sulfate to balance S in B), ammonium sulfate, calcium nitrate (plus calcium sulfate to balance S in D). The study was initiated on 'Tifdwarf' bermudagrass. "For the tested soluble nitrogen sources, maximum turf yield and nitrogen content occurred approximately one week following fertilization. When another week elapsed without additional nitrogen, turf yield declined to a level nearly equal to that prior to application of nitrogen. Such a rapid cyclic response to nitrogen is usually undesirable for most golf turf. Uniformity of growth is desired to maintain constant quality, appearance and putting conditions. To avoid cyclic responses, soluble nitrogen sources must be applied very frequently or slow slow release materials must be employed."
