Abstract/Contents: | "This project is on schedule as outlined in the initial proposal. York Custom Design, Inc., has recently finished constructing the constant-flow nutrient solution system required for this project, and will install the apparatus in the NCSU Phytotron when several parts are received from separate suppliers. We have installed a water treatment system in the Phytotron to supply deionized water, which is absolutely necessary when working with very low metal concentrations. We have obtained germplasm of tall fescue which was bred for aluminum tolerance, which we will use to test the system and pre-screen for appropriate aluminum concentrations. Turfgrass seed companies have been contacted regarding entering their varieties into our aluminum screening project. We are now actively searching for a graduate student to participate in the next phase of this project." |
