Abstract/Contents:A study was conducted on pesticide persistence using methods of composting as close as possible to those used by homeowners. Homeowners usually compost their yard waste by placing layers of cut grass and other waste in composting bins in which they rarely turn the materials, monitor the temperature or add water. The purpose of the study was to determine the decomposition of chlorpyrifos, isofenphos, diazinon, and pendimethalin in grass and compost, test how long these chemical residues remained in grass clippings, and to determine if residues persisted in the compost made from these clippings. The results and discussion of this study are given.
