Abstract/Contents:"Water allocation for the irrigation of golf courses is becoming increasingly limited due to new environmental regulations. Water conservation and improvements in water efficiency has become a primary objective for turfgrass management and greenkeeping staff. Efficient irrigation relies on optimising irrigation management strategies (how much and how often to irrigate) and minimising irrigation heterogeneity (uniformity of water distribution). Poor irrigation scheduling combined with non-uniform irrigation has potential to cause excessive water and energy consumption, an increase in nitrate leaching and groundwater contamination, and a reduction in turfgrass quality. In this research, a modelling framework was developed to quantify the impacts of irrigation uniformity and management strategies on the turfgrass water balance, growth and nitrogen leaching under Northern European environmental conditions."
