Abstract/Contents: | "Sand-based rootzones for golf greens resist compaction and drain well, but they are prone to leaching and low on moisture and nutrient retention1. Peat is often mixed in as a soil amendment at a ratio of 2 % (w/w) to improve physical properties but tend to break down within a few years2. It has been suggested to improve sand-based rootzones to reach a CEC of 4 cmol+/ kg3. With Clinoptilolite, the CEC and moisture holding capacity is increased, but some of the moisture is bound at strong tension and therefore not plant available. In this study, we evaluated Melsprings sand/soil improvers Matrix and Stor-it, both containing natural zeolite (Clinoptilolite), and Matrix also containing seaweed, in comparison with an unamended control, with both excessive irrigation and irrigation to field capacity." |
