Abstract/Contents:Drought triggers a range of abiotic stresses resulting in loss of green color and summer dormancy in cool-season turfgrasses (Lewis, Bremer, Keeley, & Fry, 2012). Mitigating drought stress may require supplemental irrigation, but data on water requirements for cool-season grass species such as fine-leaf fescues [Fesctuca rubra L. spp.], tall fescue, and perennial ryegrass in western Oregon are lacking. Because of this lack of information, turfgrass managers may not be able to identify the species most appropriate for conserving water. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of cool-season turfgrass species, mowing height, and N fertility on reference evapotranspiration (ETref) replacement and irrigation interval in western Oregon. Replacement ETref and irrigation interval data for various cool-season turfgrass species could be used by turfgrass practitioners interested in conserving water in western Oregon."
