| Abstract/Contents: | "Course layers aid in the movement of excess water only if in contact with free water at the surface. Saturated flow is limited by the finest layer in the flow path. Course layers cause layers above to retain a little more water when drainage ceases. Capillary flow, or unsaturated flow, working with gravity can move water over a barrier and downslope (all directions). Water moves in response to gravity (downward) and in response to soil attractive forces." Also discusses the Purr-wick system. |
