Abstract/Contents:Buffalograss (Bouteloua dactyloides) is an economically important, native, warm-season perennial turfgrass in North America. This grass is propagated in sod, plug or seed form dependent upon the specific cultivar in question. Due to there being a limited number of commercial producers of buffalograss propagation material, end-users experienced product sourcing challenges in the past. As a solution to this challenge the turfgrass program at Oklahoma State University created a national source directory for buffalograss in 2015. Recent consultation of the 2015 source directory by end-users led to the discovery of the directorys obsolesce and the need for resurvey. Several former producers were no longer offering buffalograss sod or plugs and a newer seeded cultivar was not listed in the prior directory. A resurvey of the turfgrass sod production industry was started in spring of 2020 but was halted and further delayed due to the pandemic. The survey will be restarted in December of 2020 and conducted through March 2021 to update the prior directory. The buffalograss cultivars in production, producer source information, and propagation forms of the cultivar will be documented. We will summarize this information as well as changes in cultivar availability, producer location, and producer number occurring since the 2015 survey. Results of this work are expected to allow turfgrass managers to more easily locate buffalograss sources, allowing for a savings in time expended in locating sources as well as facilitating trade in buffalograss product.
