Abstract/Contents:Discusses recent studies which have taken place and projects about to be initiated at the Agricultural Research Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Formaturf and ethazole were tested in their effectiveness against Pythium blight. Tests indicate that some perennial ryegrass cultivars look promising in resisting Pythium. Work to identify sources of resistance to fungal and nematode pests in turfgrasses is underway. A long-term project has been initiated to try to establish a standard pesticide treatment program that is typical of a wide range of golf courses. Another project will attempt to collect information on the rate of increase of nematode populations and the amount of damage to turfgrass that is caused by specific nematode population levels. Evaluations will be made of fungicide application methods that are believed to improve effectiveness. Aspects include: 1) Spray volume, 2) Effects of surfactants on application rates and 3) Comparative effectiveness of injection versus drenches to control root diseases.
