| Abstract/Contents: | "Turfgrass is one of the most widespread cultivated crops in the United States; while the USDA NASS provides statistical services for most crops in the United States including many horticultural and ornamental crops; as of the current date, they do not supply statistics for managed natural grasses. Substitutes for the USDA NASS crop survey have been limited. As part of a grant from the SCRI for developing drought tolerant grass species we are examining the feasibility of using CNN and NAIP imagery to map turfgrass in the urban areas of the Southern United States. We have mapped trees, turf and built environment in five US cities (Raleigh, Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Oklahoma City). (turf measurement Statistical comparisons between cities).
