| Abstract/Contents: | "Daylength and fertility influences on growth and morphological changes in leaves of 10 bermudagrass cultivars were studied. Plants were grown in 15 cm diameter pots in a glasshouse from Mar. through Apr. Plants were fertilized with 2 g (low) or 6 g (high) Osmocote 14-14-14 pot-1, respectively. Plants from each fertility group were factorially arranged and grown under a 9-h daylength (short days) or under a 9-h daylength with nightly interruptions of incandescent light from 22:00 h to 2:00 h (long days). Cultivars evaluated were 'FLoraTeX,' 'NuMex Sahara,' 'Ormond,' 'Tifdwarf,' 'Tifgreen,' 'Tifton-10,' 'Tifway,' 'Tifway II,' 'Tufcote,' and 'Vamont.' High fertility increased leaf length, stolon number, and plant dry weight. Long days increased leaf length in 9 of the 10 cultivars but did not increase stolon number or plant dry weight. All cultivars did not respond uniformly to daylength snd fertility, and the magnitude of response differed among the 10 cultivars." |
