Abstract/Contents: | "A key factor in baseball field management is soil composition of the skinned areas. This soil profile is different from that of the turf rootzone. The skinned area should have a clay content of 15 to 30 percent to provide the firmness needed for play. The pitching mound, batter's box and home plate areas need even more clay-30 to 50 percent-to provide the stability required to withstand normal abuse." Also discusses achievement and maintenance of proper moisture levels and various dragging procedures. |
