Abstract/Contents:Includes a diagnosis of bentgrass failure on sandbased collars. Possible culprits reviewed in detail include mechanical damage (mowers), a heavy topdressing schedule, pythium, and creating succulent young plants by increasing nitrogen levels. The author doesnt give credence to just one of the forementioned culprits which acts as single most important problem but rather suggest a combination. "The major part of the problem...may very well be mechanical injury from a combination of mowing and topdressing succulent, immature plants whose crowns are growing in sand rather than buffered thatch."
