Abstract/Contents: | "Following an extensive review of comprehensive waste management programs internationally, and an elaborate resident survey, Markham formulated its own strategy for achieving higher diversion levels. Known as 'Towards a Model Community,' it set forth various goals - a primary one being to surpass the provincial diversion target of 50 percent by the year 2000. Other goals are to be environmentally sustainable, acceptable to the community and economically feasible." Topics included are bags and boxes, processing recyclables and organics and project performance. |
