| Abstract/Contents: | "Turfgrass is often grown in sites that are shaded. The performance of shade-affected turfgrass that has been subjected to sports-type traffic is not well understood, therefore a study at the University of California, Riverside, was conducted to investigate the minimum light requirement of various turfgrasses that are used for sports facilities." 'Bonsai' tall fescue, 'Manhattan II' perennial ryegrass, 'Manhattan II' mixed with 'Jaspar' creeping red fescue, and 'El Toro' zoysiagrass were evaluated in the Light Intensity Turf Evaluation (LITE) facility as part of the investigation. The Brinkman Traffic Simulator (BTS) was used to simulate traffic. The maintenance practices, methods and results of the investigation are given. |
