Abstract/Contents:"Dry patch and black layer are often associated with extremes of weather condition pertaining to specific times in the yearly cycle - summer and the autumn to spring period respectively. Indeed following the exceptionally wet winter of 1993/94, and the prolonged dry summer this year, we did see an increase in the incidence of black layer and dry patch. The general occurrence of both phenomena is limited predominantly to fine rather than coarse turf areas and especially to bowling greens and golf greens." Discusses factors which contribute to dry patch and black layer, as well as measures to take to alleviate the conditions, if not cure them.
