Abstract/Contents: | Since the golf tees and greens make up less than 3 percent of the total surface area of a golf course, there is plenty of room for a natural environment to not only be established, but thrive as well. Citing the conditions of the Bad Ragaz golf course, where the worm populations in the humus demonstrate levels of fertilization that allow for bio diversity in the soil, and the preservation of the old trees result in an extensive bird population, the author concludes that the bio diversity of a golf course is the best indicator that proper maintenance is being performed. The pride of a golf course should not merely be its greens, but its varied plant and animal life. |
