Abstract/Contents: | Discusses two approaches to irrigating golf courses; first for aesthetics (keeping turf green), and second for playability (keeping turf alive). People often overwater to keep courses green when in fact lower irrigation rates and fewer applications will naturally select hardier turf plants and lessen compaction, and lower fertilizer and disease control costs. A minimal irrigation program will require close monitoring and managerial practices but will conserve water and money that may be hard to obtain. |
