Abstract/Contents: | Reports results of three years of evaluation on five growth regulators (mefluidide, EL-500, PP-333, MON 4621, MON 4623) when applied to various turfgrass areas. Mefluidide (Embark) when applied alone or in combination at the time of spring green-up reduced clippings yield by 70 - 90% for a six-week period followed by an increased flush of growth for the remainder of the ten-week evaluation period. EL-500 and PP-333, when added to Embark, extended the period of growth suppression. In every application, turf quality was reduced somewhat for two to four weeks, in proportion with treatment effectiveness. PP-333 and EL-500 treatments eliminated populations of Poa annua in some plots but not all. Embark and MON 4621 prevented seedhead production on most perennial grasses. All treatments are very effective in the suppression of growth for a period of six weeks and can be combined for effective control for up to twelve weeks. |
