Abstract/Contents: | "Success in biological control of diseases caused by Fusarium, Pythium and Phytophthora spp. is possible only if all factors involved in the production of composts are defined and kept constant. Most composts cannot meet these criteria because emphasis on quality control in general still is inadequate. Composted bark and sphagnum peat, therefore, remain the principal organic components used for the preparation of potting mixes or soils naturally suppressive to soilborne plant pathogens. Composted yard trimmings steadily are gaining in popularity, but mostly in field agriculture and the consumer markets." |
