Abstract/Contents:In trials in 1975-6 grasslands in N.W. Iran were improved by aerial oversowing and fertilizer application. The spp. sown were Agropyron desertorum, A. cristatum, brome grass, Bromus tomentellus, cocksfoot, lucerne, sainfoin and Poterium sanguisorba. The fertilizer was a mixture of triple superphosphate and ammonium sulphate. Good establishment of all spp. was achieved with an av. of 32 plants/m2. Results were not affected by sowing into snow. Seeds germinated in the thaw. Establishment was best where there was no competition from resident spp. Agropyron spp. and Bromus spp. survived on all sites, and lucerne and P. sanguisorba on some favourable sites in 1976-7. The other spp. died in the hot dry summer.
