Abstract/Contents: | "Turf, wherever it is, has an important aesthetic function. It is supposed to look good. Appearance of a sports field, even though it is primarily a concern of the spectators, who are in attendance as well as television audiences, does reflect the pride of the maintenance personnel. A bad looking field, especially if the playability is poor, is a highly visible civic embarrassment...The aesthetics of a sports field can be greatly enhanced by creating ribbon or striping mowing patterns. This is often done to give a unique detailing to the field showing all that the management team is proud of the facility." |
