Abstract/Contents:"Irrigation scheduling plays a crucial role in the amount of water applied to turf dominated landscapes.. Overwatering can lead to runoff (wasted water) and potential disease in plants. With depleting water sources worldwide, water scarcity has become more critical and efforts to reduce water usage have only increased. As the technology in ew irrigation devices improves, irrigation controller companies have made irrigation as simple as pressing a button on your phone. These irrigation controllers, which use programs to regulate water systems, have been shown to help minimize water usage and waste. Though controllers continue to improve, very few take into account data measured directly in the soil. This study aims to utilize evapotranspiration (ET) combined with soil matric potential (SMT) and volumetric water content (VWC) to optimize irrigation decisions. Half of the research plot will be watered at 80% ET and the other half will be watered at 100% ET. Based on this data collected, we will see the impact of soil monitoring on water usage and turf health. This study will also utilize the TEROS 12 soil moisture sensor as well as TEROS 21 soil water potential sensor to gather information about soils moisture parameters throughout the day. The TEROS 21's ceramic tensiometer is used to measure the SMP and the TEROS 12's three needles are used to measure VWC. For this study, the B-Hyve irrigation control system will be used, allowing us to make quick changes to irrigation scheduling for the two treatments. Irrigation zones/treatments were considered separate in their watering schedule and the schedules was designed to adhere to the cities strict three day per week watering schedule."
