Abstract/Contents:This report contains the establishment rate data from field studies of eight zoysiagrass cultivars planted in July 1988, fall low temperature color retention for 1988 and 1989, and spring greenup for 1989, and quality ratings for the period after 19 July 1989 when most cultivars exceeded 75 percent coverage. The quality estimates were visual observations by two scientists based on a composite of two primary components (a) uniformity of appearance and (b) shoot density. A minimum of 6 continuous years is required to obtain a reliable field of evaluation of turfgrass cultivars; therefore, final conclusions concerning the adaptation and performance of these cultivars can not be made at this time. A comparison of the rapidity of plot coverage by the turfgrasses shows that El Toro was the most rapid in achieving full cover, but took 13 months from date of planting. Caution should be used when considering the data in this report, as the turfs were not fully established at the time the data was collected.
