Abstract/Contents:"To release and establish steinernema scapterisci and Ormia depleta on participating golf courses throught Florida and evaluate the effectiveness of mole cricket sound traps as nematode infection stations. Ormia depleta puparia were released at 28 sites in 16 counties in this project during 1990-1991. Efforts to determine establishment of fly populations at the 28 participating sites were not very productive in 1990 and 1991 using the parasitized mole crickets method: this showed presence of the fly only on two courses in Sarasota County. No improvement was obtained in 1991 using the sticky card method: we do not know to what extent the cards were used, but we received none with flies embedded. Steinernema scapterisci was shown to be established on seven of the 18 courses which captured mole crickets in the fall of 1990. The flies should be able to exist everywhere in the area mapped so long as there are suitable nectar sources for the adults, and a supply of mole crickets to act as hosts. The flies will kill mole crickets on golf courses, pastures, and home lawns alike, and their services are "free." Steinernema scapterisci. The results of the two fall evaluations indicate that sound traps attracting flying mole crickets to relatively small numbers of nematodes can be used to establish new foci of infection.
