Abstract/Contents: | An editorial in response to the promotion of turfgrass reduction in urban landscapes in favor of trees and shrubs based on claims of better water conservation. Beard defends the use of turfgrasses and cites the lack of concrete scientific data regarding the water use rates of trees and shrubs, as well as the ability of turfgrass to resist periods of drought without irrigation. "In most situations, it is man who wastes water through improper irrigation practices and landscape designs rather than any one group of landscape plantings". |
