| Abstract/Contents: | "Srpangletop (Leptochloa spp) is a serious problem in St. Augustinegrass sod production. Field and greenhouse research was conducted to monitor the effects of the selected preemergence herbicides and herbicide combinations, on sprangletop control and St. Augustinegrass response. When considering both field and greenhouse studies, spangletop control was acceptable with Dimension, Pennant, Pennant plus Atrazine combinations and Pre-M. Variable results occurred with Ronstar and poor control of the sprangletop was noted with the Gallery and Atrazine alone. St Augustinegrass rooting was slowed severely in the short term greenhouse studies with the Dimension and Pre-M, but were only slightly reduced by the remaining treatments. Long term field studies showed no consistently significant reductions on sod tensile strength following any of the herbicides." |
