Abstract/Contents:This is an update of an ongoing study of the effects of herbicides on buffalograss. The data presented are the results of the 1992 study, which have been compared to the results from 1990 and 1991. 12 pre-emergence and 8 post-emergence herbicides were tested for phytotoxicity on field plots of Prairie buffalograss. Prograss was the most phytotoxic herbicide tested in all studies. Injury was evident less than 1 week following application, and increased to maximum within 3 weeks. Acclaim caused the greatest turf injury immediately following application, but turf recovered much more quickly than with Prograss. Ronstar and Asulox caused moderate turf injury, but full recovery occurred within one month. Results from these studies indicate that all of the above herbicides can safely be used on buffalograss except Prograss and Acclaim.
