USGA Summary Points:A second year of data was collected on drought susceptible cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass and creeping bentgrass subjected to irrigation treatments based on differing threshold-based irrigation treatments. Plots irrigated at higher moisture thresholds used significantly more water and remained significantly softer and greener; however, a threshold of 45% provided similar surface firmness and green canopy cover as the 75% and 60% treatments, but did not significantly reduce water use. Although the water reduction for that threshold was not statistically significant, it still represented a 25% reduction from the 75% treatment, which is practically meaningful. Canopy NDVI declined (15% threshold), increased (45, 60, or 75% threshold) or did not change (30% threshold) at a statistically significant rate over time and the interaction of time with irrigation threshold was significant.
