USGA Summary Points: | Preliminary data collections using a Toro Precision Sense 6000 and EM-38 were conducted at three golf facilities: The City Course at Briarcrest (Bryan, TX), The Bearkat Course (Huntsville, TX), and The Club at Carlton Woods (The Woodlands, TX). The Club at Carlton Woods was selected for Objective 1, featuring two courses with sand-capped fairways, one course was hybrid bermudagrass and the other zoysiagrass. Variability in apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) within these fairways was affected by turfgrass and soil attributes. However, the varying relationships observed within and between courses highlight the need for further research (Objective 1). Different vegetation indices were closely linked to soil moisture and, to some extent, penetration resistance, rather than distinctly indicating their ability to detect spatial variability in tissue N (Objective 1). The Bearkat Course was selected for Objectives 2 and 3. Preliminary data were used to group nine fairways into three similar groups of three (i.e., randomized complete block design) based on soil and turfgrass characteristics for Objective 3 in 2024 and 2025. Aerial imagery and ground data acquired during 2022 and 2023 are currently undergoing processing to evaluate seasonal variations (Objective 2) and to generate variable-rate prescription N fertility maps (Objective 3). |
