| Abstract/Contents: | "Nocturnal observations on the feeding activities of Phyllophaga congrua (LeConte) adults disclosed preference among cultivars of creeping bentgrass, Agrostis palustris Huds. (Poaceae). A mean of 3.6x the number of beetles fed per plot on 'Emerald' compared to 'Penneagle' in replicated field plots in a 2-year study in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Intermediate numbers of beetles fed on 'Cobra', 'Prominent', 'Syn2-Penncross', 'Penncross', 'Seaside', and 'Pennlinks'. Repeated observations on experimental clones of bentgrasss in unreplicated field plots indicated a wide range of preferability. We are unaware of any previous records of adult Phyllophaga species feeding preferences among species or varieties of turfgrass." |
