Abstract/Contents: | "Substantial amounts of what was called winter injury significantly reduced early spring color of all creeping species. Colonial species were not visually effected. Additionally, following an unseasonably warm, dry spring less heat tolerant cultivars such as Putter showed reduced quality. Cultivars developed for enhanced heat tolerance such as Cato were able to sustain adequate quality. Crenshaw and it's cousin SR1020, from germplasm collected in Arizona exhibited high incidence along with older cultivars Seaside and Emerald. No significant difference was found between the cultivars most likely a result of error associated with measurements. A good database of information is being generated after two years with regard to consistently high aesthetic quality. Still, response to functional considerations such as divot recovery and ball lie remain to be evaluated. Two years into the study and Providence, the experimentals from International Seeds (88.CBL and 88.CBE) and Cato are in the top 5%." |
