Abstract/Contents:"Genetically darker cultivars such as Alpine, Midnight and Indigo exhibit exceptionally poor spring color. But, as the season progesses, these cultivars provide consistentely high aesthetic quality, especially Alpine. As a measure of the effectiveness of using NTEP data, quality data from August and September was not able to detect significant differences. Still, the dense, fine-textured, dark green cultivar, Alpine provides 'bentgrass like' performance. Annual bluegrass is beginning to infest the plots. Prograss will be applied across half the plots in the fall of 1994 to evaluate control and safety of these cultivars at fairway height."
