| Abstract/Contents: | "Thirty experimental and commercially available creeping and colonial bentgrass cultivars were seeded at 1#/M on May 26, 1993 to be evaluated over a 5 year period. Initial cover ratings indicate the significant influence weed invasion can have on newly establishing areas. Specifically, to address this problem, multiple applications of Basagran, Trimec (Bentgrass formula) and Acclaim were made to the plot area. Phytotoxicity to the herbicide applications was widespread with no cultivar differences apparent. This aggressive weed control strategy is not recommended for high quality turf conditions. Interestingly, with 2 months of establishment several cultivars demonstrated exceptially high aesthetic quality including experimental in the G series from Penn State University, as well as Cato and Providence. The last minute addition of a blend of Pennlinks and Putter provided a high quality fairway turf." |
