| Abstract/Contents: | "Seventy-five experimental and commercially available fine-leaf fescue, perennial ryegrass, Poa supina and Kentucky bluegrass cultivars were seeded at standard seeding rates on June 15, 1994 on the #2 fairway at Gateway Golf Club in Land'O Lakes, WI. Following establishment, the height of cut was accidentally lowered too quickly. Consequently, the fine-leaf fescues clearly demonstrated their well known lack of wear tolerance. However, the data reveal that a substantial recovery occurred as traffic was diverted around the plot area. Still, the intention of the study is to evaluate these species and cultivars under actual golf turf management conditions. It may be possible to significantly reduce inputs to fairway turf and maintain adequate aesthetic and functional quality." |
