Abstract/Contents:"A 3-year-old stand of a four-cultivar blend of Kentucky bluegrass was selected at the O. J. Noer Turfgrass Research and Eduction Facility for the study. A total of 16 treatments were included in the study. All indications to date are that leather hydrolysate, CH6, is a very effective N source for turfgrass. Considerable flexibility exists as to rates/application and frequency of application. As long as the annual N rate is held constant, Kentucky bluegrass responses in terms of color and clipping weights are essentially constant over application frequencies ranging from 2 to 8 weeks. Thus, the product may be suitable for turfgrass ranging from home lawns to bentgrass putting greens. The optimum annual N rate for CH 6 appeared to be in the rage of 3.0 lb/M. This suggests very high turfgrass recovery rates and, in turn, that microbial mineralization of CH6 protein N during the growing season is fairly complete. CH6 appears to be a safe product to make available to non-professioal applicators. No turfgrass burn or discoloration occurred when the product was diluted just enough to effectively spray and applied at the rate of 1.2 lb N/M. The product is virtually odorless."
